Remember, Remember the Fifth of November

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
gunpowder, treason and plot,
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
'twas his intent
to blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below,
Poor old England to overthrow:
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.

Holloa boys, holloa boys, make the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!
Hip hip hoorah!

A penny loaf to feed the Pope.
A farthing o' cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down.
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar.
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head.
Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead.
Hip hip hoorah!
Hip hip hoorah!

Dear Readers--

Today The Boy's Own Paper commemorates the foiling of the Dastardly Papist Plot to blow up the British Houses of Parliament in 1605. Unfortunately there are no Guy Fawkes Night (or Bonfire Night) Public Celebrations in Australia planned and there haven't been since the Nineteen Eighties. This was when Officious Governments decided to restrict the sale of fireworks (supposedly in the interests of Public Safety) ; although the Desire of Republicans and other Leftists to deny our British Heritage; and of Catholics to deny their Innate Disloyalty may also have Contributed to the Ostentatious Public Neglect of this Festival.

So while Our Government invests time and money in meaningless, invented and deracinated celebrations like Riverfestival and Harmony Day - a Cause for Celebration with Strong Historical and Cultural Meaning to those of British Descent is ignored.

I say No to Riverfestival, to Harmony Day, to Chinese New Year and to Buddha's Birthday in Queensland; No more cheating our Children of their Heritage - Bring back Bonfire Night!

God Save the Queen!
Mild Colonial Boy, Esq.
